OVERVIEW
I was charged with reimagining YAHOO! for kids. My goal was to keep the design consistent with the YAHOO! brand, while appealing to a younger demographic through the strategic use of color and typography. At the forefront of the website was the creative showcasing of educational content through games, activites, and kid-friendly articles. A parent portal complimented the front-end content and allowed them to supervise activity. What results is a deliverable well-suited for the YAHOO! Kids of 2015, that brings children joy and parents some needed peace-of-mind!

MISSION
Provide children with an interactive site to learn by reading kid-friendly articles and playing educational games on a daily basis.
PROBLEM
There are a variety of apps and sites intended for kids but they are very specific to one particular brand or activity. These sites and apps tend to focus on either education or entertainment, but few actually achieve a healthy balance of fun and learning.
SOLUTION
Build an everyday web platform that provides children with interactive, ever-changing content. An effective combination of daily features and games will keep children engaged with exciting, educational content. A parental dashboard allows parents to view their child’s development.

HISTORY
YAHOO! originally launched Yahooligans in March of 1996. The site had a target demographic of kids ages 4-12 and was intended for educational and entertainment purposes. In October of 1999, Yahooligans had an Alexa Rating of 991 out of the 22 million content sites being tracked. In November 2006, Yahooligans was re branded and YAHOO! KIDS was launched. Every link on YAHOO! KIDS was vetted by educational professionals and former teachers, to ensure the content's appropriateness. In April of 2013, YAHOO! KIDS was one of the many projects shut down by YAHOO!’s new CEO, Marissa Mayer, in order for the company to focus its resources on mobile efforts.

RESEARCH
A visit to the Children’s museum gave us insight into our demographic. By interacting with the different exhibits, we got a grasp on the learning stages and subjects, as well as some creative ideas for the site. The City Scene in the Museum inspired the city design of the home page, and we were also able to build pages that matched all of the main elements of a museum: STEAM - Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math.
